Joseph Masi has dropped a teasing update on the fitness of West Bromwich Albion centre-back Dara O’Shea ahead of the Baggies’ upcoming Championship fixture.

In a recent report for The Express & Star, the journalist revealed that, following a near six month lay off with a broken ankle, the Republic of Ireland international could finally be in line for a return to the starting XI this weekend – when West Brom make the trip to Luton Town for Saturday’s 15:00 kick-off.

In his article, Masi writes: “Albion defender Dara O’Shea says he found himself in a ‘dark place’ after fracturing his ankle back in September. But the 22-year-old insists he’s now ready for a strong end to the season – with the centre-back potentially set to start at Luton on Saturday.”

Considering just how impressive O’Shea had been for West Brom during the opening fixtures of the 2021/22 Championship campaign, the news that the centre-back could finally be in line for starting role this weekend is sure to have left Steve Bruce buzzing.

The Lowdown: Quiet month for Leeds

Despite suffering a tough, injury-plagued season so far, Leeds didn’t do any significant transfer business last month.

Marcelo Bielsa will now continue to work with the squad at his disposal but the hope is that key figures such as Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford will be available again soon after lengthy injuries.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills claimed that the 25-year-old, who has been called ‘fantastic’ by Ian Wright, could have been a shrewd addition for Leeds.

The former Whites right-back stated: “From being told there was a lot of money to spend and not spending it, there are two questions to ask. Could they not get the deals done? Or, did they not feel those players were good enough to improve the squad.

“Even the likes of Dele Alli went on a free transfer. That would have been a pretty big coup in the end for Leeds.”

The Verdict: Too much of a risk

Although Alli has had an impressive career thus far, chipping in with 88 Premier League goal contributions (51 goals and 37 assists) he has flattered to deceive for a long time now.

At 25, there is still time for him to prove his doubters wrong, but he only has one league goal to his name in the last season-and-a-half, and even that was a penalty.

Whether or not Alli has the attitude to suceed in a Bielsa team is also up for debate, and while he may end up thriving at Everton, previous accusations of laziness would suggest that there is more chance that he would have flopped at Elland Road.

McDonald was unbeaten on 86 as Leicestershire closed the first day on 263 for 8. Young seamer James Harris was Glamorgan’s most successful bowler, taking three for 62 in 24 overs.Having won the toss, Leicestershire made steady progress in the morning session, with Matt Boyce and Nixon putting on 81 by lunch. Boyce rode his luck at times, edging just short of slip and then being dropped by James Allenby off Will Owen when he was on 33.Nixon looked the more solid of the opening pair, picking up two boundaries with trademark clips off his legs through midwicket.
