Many Aston Villa fans have been buzzing at a tweet involving Matty Cash which recently emerged on social media.

The Aston Villa Twitter account relayed a tweet about Cash and posted a stat on the English right-back. The tweet said that the former Nottingham Forest star has made more interceptions in the Premier League this season than any other defender in the division.

Villa had signed the Englishman from Forest in the summer transfer window for a fee of £14.18 million. In the current campaign, he has made 14 Premier League appearances for Dean Smith’s men and has also racked up a couple of assists for the Birmingham-based club (as per Transfermarkt).

The 23-year-old has racked up a rating of 7.19 in the Premier League this season and in the Villa side, he has been the club’s seventh-best performer in that sense. In the Villa side, he has been the club’s best tackler too as he had made 2.6 tackles per game. He has made the fourth-highest number of clearances per game (as per Whoscored).

This shows the sort of signing he has been for Aston Villa. Tony Adams has already been full of praise for the Englishman and said: “Look at Villa, the right-back Matty Cash the other night. Wow. Slough boy. Dagenham and Redbridge. He’s gone to Nottingham Forest. What a player. He’s 23.

“He has Aubameyang in his pocket. Athletic, strong, what a great player.”

The tweet involving Cash from Villa’s Twitter account caught the attention of many fans, who made their opinion clear about the summer signing.

Ivory Coast playmaker Wilfried Zaha has given Crystal Palace an injury scare ahead of West Ham’s visit to Selhurst Park on Tuesday night.

Zaha was clearly hampered by an injury problem during the second half of the game against Arsenal when Palace were denied victory by the outstretched arms of Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The 28-year-old was a surprise absentee for Palace, the club talisman not even included in the matchday squad for the trip to Manchester City, while Gary Cahill replaced Cheikhou Kouyate.

Hodgson later confirmed after the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s side that he had suffered an injury in the game against Arsenal and is therefore a doubt for West Ham’s trip to Selhurst Park.

“Wilf, unfortunately, picked up a knock in the game against Arsenal,” Hodgson said in quotes provided by the club website. “The turnaround has been quite quick, and we haven’t been able to turn him around in time.”

“Every time Wilf doesn’t play it’s a miss, that’s been well documented. We’d have loved to have him here – and we’d have loved to have had Cheikhou [Kouyate] here – but these things happen in a game of football and we’re fortunate that with a couple of days between the games we haven’t picked up more injuries than the one Wilf picked up.”

Zaha has been Hodgson’s best performer this season as his impressive form upfront has helped balance their defensive frailties at the back over the course of the campaign.

He will be assessed at Palace’s training ground on Monday before the Premier League clash with West Ham.

Palace will also be without Jeffrey Schlupp, who is currently sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury against Sheffield United, while Wayne Hennessey, Connor Wickham and Nathan Ferguson are also out of action.

Hodgson faces a nervous wait over the fitness of Zaha ahead of welcoming West Ham to south London, having seen the Palace talisman top the club’s goal-scoring charts this season to score eight goals in 17 appearances – more than his teammates Christian Benteke and Eberechi Eze combined, per Transfermarkt.

The Palace boss is hopeful that Zaha will be available for the West Ham game but the full extent of his injury is currently unknown and as such he remains a concern heading into the clash.

If he is ruled out then Jordan Ayew is set to replace the former Manchester United player as Palace look for a vastly improved performance after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling last Sunday.

Ayew offered very little against Guardiola’s side, however, as he struggled to earn a foothold in the game, managing just 15 passes from a possible 20 and watching helpless as City cruised to a comfortable victory over the Eagles at the Etihad.

Losing Zaha for an extended period of time would leave Hodgson in a precarious position as his side have lost two out of their past three games across all competitions.

According to a recent report from Eurosport, Celtic are chasing Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy in January.

What’s the word?

It’s claimed that the Hoops have been eyeing a move for the 30-year-old Glaswegian for several months.

McCarthy is also reportedly well aware of the interest coming in his direction from Parkhead and is apparently open to a move away from Selhurst Park due to a lack of game time this season.

Roy Hodgson has some tough decisions to make regarding several Palace players, including Belgian striker Christian Benteke, who have already entered the final few months of their contracts.

McCarthy has been a loyal servant of the club for many years now but the Scotsman could be off, with the Scottish Premiership champions seeing him as a capture in the next window.

Should McCarthy leave south London for the north of the border as is expected in January, Hodgson will need to find a replacement who is capable of filling the void left by his potential exit.

If McCarthy does indeed depart Selhurst Park, Palace’s long-term target and Fenerbahce midfielder Ozan Tufan could be the ideal option to provide a box-to-box presence in the midfield.

The Eagles were originally linked with a move for the 55-cap Turkey international in 2018, and he recently revealed he came very close to moving to Selhurst Park after a bright start to his career at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium before a deal collapsed at the last second.

He told Goal: “Crystal Palace had showed a real interest in me a few years back and I nearly signed for them. We even had our plane tickets to England. But right before the day we planned to fly to England, Crystal Palace’s Sako got injured.

“The board had an emergency meeting and they decided to sign a replacement for him. So my move failed. They signed Alexander Sorloth instead of me. The details on this are not widely known but yes, it happened to us.”

Reports in recent times from Turkey have reaffirmed those links to Palace, amid interest from Premier League rivals Everton and Fulham.

Valued at £9m via Transfermarkt, in 13 appearances in the Super Lig this season, the 25-year-old monster has scored four goals and supplied two assists, while he is averaging 1.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.8 shots and at least one key pass per game, via WhoScored. Not bad, not bad at all.

In contrast, even McCarthy has only mustered 0.2 shots and 0.2 key passes on average per game in the Premier League, as per WhoScored, albeit he has suffered an injury-disrupted campaign.

Proving both capable of playing at the back or in the midfield, Tufan could become a vital asset for this current Palace side, especially when you consider the fact McCarthy looks likely to leave Selhurst Park.

If Adelaide had never seen anything quite like it, the noisy hordes of India and Pakistan supporters were well and truly familiar with this tale. A Virat Kohli hundred and supporting hands from Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina lifted India to 300 for 7, and the task of claiming victory proved beyond Pakistan for the sixth time out of six in this most intense of World Cup fixtures.Just as the “sell-out” crowd of 41,587 fell some 10,000 short of Adelaide Oval’s capacity, the contest did not quite reach the heights many had hoped for. Pakistan’s chase of 301 was too jittery, and the captain Misbah-ul-Haq was left in the familiar position of keeping his head while all around him were losing theirs. Misbah’s innings ran Kohli’s close for the best of the match, but it was the collective effort of India’s batsmen that made the difference – Dhawan and Raina also contributed substance.MS Dhoni then marshaled his men skilfully, cajoling strong spells out of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma and R Ashwin on a surface that slowed a little as the match wore on. This was down largely to some excellent work with both new and old ball by Sohail Khan, supported by Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz.When Raina and Kohli were motoring towards the end of their 110-run stand, it seemed as though 330 was plausible. As it was, only 21 runs came from the final four overs. Sohail claimed five wickets when he did MS Dhoni for too much pace and then Ajinkya Rahane for too little with the first two balls of the 50th, narrowly missing a hat-trick when his yorker beat not only Mohammed Shami but also the off stump.It may even have been better for Pakistan. Kohli offered a pair of difficult chances, and Pakistan needed to clasp at least one of them in order to restrict India to a less lofty total. Yasir Shah could not hold onto a running chance at deep midwicket when Kohli had made just three, and on 76 a well-pitched, left-arm orthodox from Haris Sohail evaded the gloves of Umar Akmal.Misbah might also have miscalculated slightly when he gave the ball to Afridi before Yasir. While Afridi’s greater experience merited his introduction, Yasir was not called upon until Kohli and Dhawan were well set, and struggled to contain rather than seeking wickets against batsmen less sure of themselves – his final figures a barren 0 for 60 in eight overs.Masses of spectators from India had assembled at the Oval’s southern plaza before the match, with another gathering at the Rotunda in Elder Park across the Torrens River. Pakistan’s gathering was smaller but resplendent in a mass of green shirts in the lower tier of the eastern stand.Both groups were initially kept a little quiet as Mohammad Irfan and Sohail Khan began with discipline and purpose. Sohail’s first ball swung back at Dhawan and drew a speculative appeal, though replays indicated the ball had struck bat rather than pad. Irfan’s bounce extracted one edge that flew to where a third slip might have been, but Misbah’s intent to defend was made clear when the second slip disappeared the ball after Dhawan cut the first boundary of the day behind point.Rohit Sharma has recently been India’s most dominant ODI force, but he was hurried out by Sohail, who generated considerable pace from his strong-shouldered action and arrived too quickly for the batsman’s attempted pull shot. Dhawan’s travails on this tour have been many, and it was a somewhat chastened figure who took his time at the other end, gathering steady momentum but respecting Pakistan’s bowlers.Kohli, too, had some recent outs behind him, failing to pass 20 in the triangular series or either of India’s Cup warm-up matches. So he played within himself, helping India to keep wickets in hand for a later surge that is already becoming customary at this tournament, only two days and four matches into its narrative. Yasir’s dropped chance was the moment’s grace Kohli required.It was also the introduction of Yasir that signalled a higher gear from Kohli, boundaries disappearing through cover and mid off and 11 runs from the wrist spinner’s second over taking India past a run rate of five an over for the first time. From there it continued up and up, punctuated only by Dhawan’s dismissal for an important 73. Even that moment aided India’s momentum, for Raina immediately struck the ball cleanly, taking advantage of the gaps left by the presence of only four men outside the fielding circle at most.Kohli’s hundred drew Indian paroxysms of delight and an expression of relief and gratitude from the batsman, his departure a just reward for Sohail’s persistence. Raina and Dhoni were then expected to pile up the runs in the closing overs, but exemplary death bowling from Sohail and Wahab, much as their captain Misbah had forecast on match eve, meant India did not get past 300.Pakistan went to the dinner break with plenty of optimism, but it would prove too flimsy to sustain them through the pressures of the sort of chase that has tripped them up in all but one of their six Cup defeats at Indian hands. They will look back ruefully on moments like Yasir’s dropped catch, or Umar’s caught behind dismissal. India, meanwhile, can look ahead with hope. At an effervescent Adelaide Oval, their winless Australian tour has turned a corner.

Na última segunda-feira (9), foram definidos os quatro clubes que garantiram o acesso à Série B do Brasileirão de 2020, e entre eles, não está o time que foi tricampeão paraibano e vice da Copa do Nordeste no primeiro semestre deste ano.

Trata-se do Botafogo-PB, que não conseguiu repetir o bom desempenho nas competições anteriores, sendo eliminado do Campeonato Brasileiro da Série C apenas com a sexta colocação do Grupo A.

Com 15 jogos disputados, um gol marcado e três assistências na campanha do Botafogo-PB na terceira divisão, o lateral de 30 anos teve sondagens de duas equipes da Série B para o restante de 2019, segundo Douglas Poroca, empresário do atleta.

Porém, de acordo com o regulamento da CBF (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol), como Neilson já defendeu dois clubes diferentes em torneios nacionais coordenados pela entidade neste ano (Botafogo-PB na Série C e Campinense na Copa do Brasil), o jogador só pode se transferir para times que disputam competições regionais ou estaduais ainda nesta temporada.
