Celtic: Vakoun Bayo set for Parkhead return

Celtic striker Vakoun Bayo looks set to return to Parkhead under new boss Ange Postecoglou, according to the Daily Record.

The Lowdown: Bayo’s 2020/21 season

The 24-year-old spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at French side Toulouse.

Bayo, who Chris Sutton described as ‘powerful’ back in 2019, scored 13 goals and registered four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions, with 11 of those coming since the turn of the year.

Unfortunately for the Ivory Coast international, he failed to help Toulouse gain promotion to Ligue 1, and it seems that could be costly in regards to the forward making his stay in France permanent.

The Latest: Bayo’s return

According to a report from the Daily Record, Bayo is in line to return to Parkhead ahead of pre-season.

Toulouse had the option to turn Bayo’s loan move into permanent transfer this summer, but it appears as if they will not decide to do that. They announced that Brecht Dejaegere had made his temporary stay a long-term one, but there was no mention of Bayo.

He is expected to return to Scotland as a result and could be handed a chance by Postecoglou, with pre-season for the Hoops beginning on Thursday.

The Verdict: A welcome boost for Postecoglou?

New Celtic boss Postecoglou could well be short of attacking options over the coming months, so a return to Scotland for Bayo could be good news for the 55-year-old.

Leigh Griffiths’ future appears to be up in the air, while Odsonne Edouard has reportedly told friends that he will be joining Leicester City.

Celtic also recently missed out on long-term target Kyle Joseph, so having Bayo back at Lennoxtown next week will give Postecoglou another attacking option as he gears up for a busy few months ahead of the crucial 2021/22 season.

Wolves: Ashley Westwood ruled out

Wolverhampton Wanderers will face a Burnley side without Ashley Westwood in their Premier League clash this afternoon.

What’s the story?

The Clarets midfielder was forced off on a stretcher in their 1-1 draw against West Ham last weekend and has since had to have surgery on his ankle, after fracturing and dislocating it.

Caretaker boss Mike Jackson said to the media, as quoted by Birmingham Live: “It is a fracture and a dislocation. The operation went really well.”

Although, Jackson did provide a positive update on left-back Erik Pieters, saying: “Erik Pieters is doing a lot of running on the grass and is where he needs to be.”

However, after surgery, the 32-year-old now faces a long period on the sidelines and will certainly be absent for Wolves’ meeting with the Lancashire outfit at Turf Moor this afternoon.

A boost for Wolves

It goes without saying that we wish Westwood the very best in his recovery from a serious injury but given his importance to the Clarets, it will be a boost to Wolves that he is missing for this encounter.

The significance of today’s match for both sides is of serious magnitude with both fighting at different ends of the table.

Burnley boosted their survival hopes on Thursday evening with a 2-0 win at home to Southampton but still find themselves one point off safety with 17th-place Everton having a game in hand.

As for Bruno Lage’s men, European qualification is still very possible but will require a strong run of form to close out the season, with the West Midlands outfit currently eighth but five points behind sixth-place Manchester United with two games in hand.

Wanderers are also battling with West Ham, who currently occupy seventh, for a European place with the Hammers three points ahead, although Wolves do have a game in hand.

Lage’s men are in a good position, however, they are slightly reliant on results elsewhere going their way whilst also needing to win their own matches.

At 32, Westwood boasts plenty of experience whilst making 27 appearances in the top-flight for the Lancashire outfit this term, making him a key fixture in their plans.

Therefore, the knowledge that Burnley will be without one of their regular players in Westwood for a crucial match will be a major boost for Lage and co.

Wolves fans want Max Kilman to face WBA

A number of Wolves supporters have been calling for Max Kilman to start against West Brom in the upcoming Premier League derby clash.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have endured a season to forget, having previously shone in the top flight under his watch. Wolves currently sit 12th in the table, winning just 11 out of 33 matches, with Raul Jimenez’s lengthy injury absence playing a key role in their struggles.

Although Nuno’s men have little to play for between now and the end of the season, Monday evening sees the small matter of the Black Country derby against West Brom at The Hawthorns. Local bragging rights are always up for grabs in the game, with the thought of losing to the Baggies always a grim one for Wolves fans.

Someone who could start this evening is Kilman, with the 23-year-old centre-back making 15 appearances in the league so far this season. As noted by @TalkingWolves on Twitter, the team’s record with him in the team is distinctly better than when he hasn’t featured.

Newcastle eye Man Utd ace Henderson

Craig Hope has revealed some fresh Newcastle United transfer news involving Dean Henderson.

The Lowdown: Burn on his way?

As per Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, the St. James’ Park faithful have now agreed a £13m fee with Brighton and Hove Albion to sign Dan Burn, adding that he is travelling up to the North East in order to undergo a medical.

He looks set to join Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and the imminent Bruno Guimaraes on Tyneside, meaning that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium can now focus on other targets before the deadline hits.

It seems as though the priority is still on improving the defensive record even after the move for Burn, judging by the latest news from Hope.

The Latest: Attention on Henderson

According to The Daily Mail journalist, talks have begun this weekend to bring Manchester United’s Henderson to Tyneside on loan:

“Talks have taken place in past 24 hours.”

However, after previously reporting that there was a ‘strong chance’ of a deal, Hope is no longer so positive.

“Never say never, but I’m told Henderson/NUFC now looks unlikely.”

The Verdict: Not a priority

Henderson is undeniably talented – during his incredible spell on loan with Sheffield United, when he kept 35 clean sheets in 86 appearances, his Blades teammate, Sander Berge, hailed him as ‘insane’ and ‘exceptional’.

However, the Toon are already stacked in the goalkeeping department with Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman, and so they should not be prioritising bringing in a new one – even if Woodman leaves, Eddie Howe will still have two senior shot-stoppers at his disposal.

Furthermore, Henderson currently earns a whopping £120,000-per-week at Old Trafford, and while money is not an object to the new owners, they would probably be expected to pay a large chunk of that on top of a potential loan fee.

Nonetheless, they should focus on other positions, with another striker mooted with Callum Wilson’s injury, and the likes of Alvaro Morata and Dominic Calvert-Lewin still reportedly seen as options.

AVFC: Fans buzz at Axel Tuanzebe confirmation

Aston Villa announced the loan signing of Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on Sunday afternoon.

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa supporters flocked to the official confirmation on social media.

Tuanzebe has arrived on a season-long deal, his third temporary move to Villa Park during his career.

The 23-year-old, who has made 35 appearances for Villa during his previous spells, was on the bench just hours after a move was announced in Villa’s 3-1 win over Salernitana.

The defender didn’t feature at Villa Park against the Italian side but has now become the club’s fifth senior addition of the window and first signing to provide cover to Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa.

Villa fans react

Villa posted the news regarding Tuanzebe just hours before their final pre-season fixture ahead of the new season.

This is what these Villa fans had to say in reply, with plenty delighted and one describing a move as ‘great’.

Luton make approach to sign Dewsbury-Hall

Luton Town have made an approach to sign Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on a permanent basis, a source has exclusively revealed to Football FanCast.

After joining Luton Town on a season-long loan deal back in October of last year, the 22-year-old went on to prove himself as one of Nathan Jones’ star players in the Hatters’ impressive Championship campaign.

Over his 39 league appearances, the midfielder scored three goals, registered six assists and created six big chances, as well as making an average of 1.2 interceptions, 1.6 tackles and 1.7 key passes per game, earning the £1.8m-rated man a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.11 – ranking him as Luton’s best performer in the second tier.

Now, a source has exclusively revealed to Football FanCast that, as a result of these exceptional returns, the Hatters’ chief recruitment officer, Mick Harford, has made an approach to Leicester City regarding a permanent deal for the £20k-per-week midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

And, should Harford be successful with his bid to bring Dewsbury-Hall back to Kenilworth Road this summer, the deal would represent something of a coup for Luton, who appear to be moving in all the right directions under the leadership of Jones.

Windass: Dele Alli should make Aston Villa move

Dean Windass has urged Dele Alli to prove his doubters wrong by linking up with Aston Villa.

Alli made just 29 appearances last season, with his minutes limited after failing to impress then-Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho.

Having played an integral part as England reached the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Alli has been forced to watch the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 campaign unfold on television as his lack of Premier League action resulted in him no longer being considered by national team manager Gareth Southgate.

Alli has been overtaken by the likes of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Champions League-winning Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount and Arsenal playmaker Bukayo Saka in the race for a regular starting spot for England.

Jack Grealish has also made a telling contribution at Euro 2020 following an impressive campaign at Aston Villa.

Former Hull City striker Windass feels £100,ooo-a-week man Alli would benefit from walking away from Spurs, despite the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as head coach, and joining forces with Grealish at Villa Park ahead of the new Premier League season.

Windass, speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, said: “The new manager might want to keep Dele Alli, but I don’t think Harry Kane will be staying so their main focus will be trying to get another centre forward quickly.

“I think Dele would fit in well at Aston Villa and he needs to start playing again. He needs to start being a bit more confident as well because it does demoralise you when you don’t play and the manager doesn’t rate you.

“If a manager doesn’t like you, they don’t like you. There’s nothing you can do about it. You just have to move on and prove to the manager that they shouldn’t have let you go. That’s what Dele Alli has got to do, I think.”

Spurs now eyeing Dembele

As per a report by 90min, an interesting Tottenham Hotspur transfer claim has dropped with the Lilywhites now eyeing Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.

The Lowdown: Paratici, time to get working?

After Spurs humbling 1-0 defeat away to Vitesse in the Europa Conference League, managing director Fabio Paratici has been urged to get working on the signings of alternative attacking options.

As well as being short of natural centre-forwards bar Dane Scarlett and Harry Kane, the club’s wide options are also a point of contention.

Injuries have already occurred to the likes of Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn while Lucas Moura could be slowly reaching the twilight phase of his career.

As the January transfer window slowly approaches, news has emerged on what Spurs ‘may be willing’ to offer Dembele.

The Latest: Spurs ‘may be willing’ to offer Dembele wage increase…

As Tottenham eye the Barcelona forward, along with several other clubs, his current side are working to try and tie him down with a contract extension.

His current deal expires in 2022 and agreeing fresh terms is proving difficult for Barca, especially considering their financial situation and the fact Dembele wants a pay rise on his current wage in excess of £200,000-per-week.

This is where Paratici and Spurs come in, with the 90min report claiming they could be one of several interested sides now ‘willing to offer the money he wants’.

The Verdict: Worth the gamble?

Despite being called ‘frightening’ by Lionel Messi himself, offering the Frenchman over £200,000-per-week could be a very risky move by Paratici.

Dembele’s injury record speaks for itself and could be a real bone of contention to any Spurs move regardless of his ability, not to mention multiple incidents of behavioural issues affecting his career in Catalonia.

Man City dealt Danny Ings blow

Manchester City have been dealt a blow in their hopes of signing Southampton striker Danny Ings this summer after Ralph Hasenhuttl suggested that he wouldn’t be sold, which rules out another option for Pep Guardiola in his hunt for a Sergio Aguero replacement at the Etihad Stadium.

What’s the word?

Despite rejecting a new contract at St Mary’s recently, it seems as if Ings will remain a Southampton player for the 2021/22 campaign, even if it means losing him for nothing at the end of next season.

Although City could potentially sign him then on a free transfer, Guardiola is clearly desperate to sign a striker this summer, and without a clinical forward in their squad, it might prove difficult for the Citizens to retain their Premier League title.

Hasenhuttl was firm on Ings’ future at Southampton as he told the BBC: “He’s our player for another year, we paid a lot of money for him. When we brought him here, we invested a lot to get him to the highest level and how he is at the moment. We stuck with him with all these injuries he had, gave him the time to recover, gave him the time to perform.

“There’s no reason to sell him, but it’s always a risk for the player when you go into your final year without a contract.”

Another transfer setback for Man City?

City have been linked with a whole host of strikers this summer as they look to find someone to fill Aguero’s boots, but a number of their reported targets don’t appear to be realistic options for the Citizens.

Romelu Lukaku confirmed that he would remain with Inter, whilst Erling Haaland and Harry Kane would both cost well over £100m, which has limited their options.

Ings has netted 34 Premier League goals over the past two seasons, a greater tally than both Aguero (20) and Gabriel Jesus (23), which hints at just how potent he can be in the division and how astute an addition he could have been at the Etihad.

[freshpress-quiz id=“577936″]

Andre Silva was touted as a potential replacement but he has signed for RB Leipzig, and now that the “outstanding” Ings doesn’t seem to be a viable option for City, fans will no doubt be worried that no striker will be brought in before the deadline, which could seriously hamper their chances of silverware next season.

Man Utd eye move for Youri Tielemans

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Youri Tielemans as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his first-team squad even further.

What’s the story?

Despite bringing in several high-profile signings over the summer, United were heavily linked with multiple central midfielders as their Norwegian boss aims to bolster his engine room options.

The likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Saul Niguez were believed to be top of the Old Trafford outfit’s wishlist, but they sealed moves to Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively, leaving Solskjaer searching for alternative options.

And now, the well-known journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on United’s search for a new midfielder, claiming Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans is a top target.

“I am told that he is on many top clubs’ list. Real Madrid have his name in mind for the future, Barcelona the same,” Romano revealed on his YouTube channel (as relayed by the Leicester Mercury).

“In England, many clubs are interested. Manchester United have to decide on Paul Pogba, but Tielemans is one to watch for the future for Manchester United.

“Leicester are very good in their strategy. They said no over James Maddison and said no for Tielemans. They always protect their best players. It will not be easy to sign him because Leicester will put a big price on this player,” he concluded.

Manchester United fans will be buzzing

Tielemans has established himself as one of the best young players in the Premier League in recent campaigns, scoring 18 goals and laying on a further 19 assists in 112 appearances for the Foxes, securing the FA Cup and Community Shield along the way.

However, after entering the final two years of his current contract at the King Power Stadium, there’s been much speculation over the Belgian international’s future.

Liverpool were thought to be interested in securing his services over the summer, although no formal offer materialised, and now a selection of European football’s heavyweights appear to have moved to the front of the queue for the technically gifted maestro.

With Pogba potentially leaving United on a free transfer next year, news that Tielemans could be his replacement will surely leave the club’s supporters buzzing with excitement.

Although the Frenchman’s departure would be a huge blow, replacing him with a proven Premier League talent who has his prime years ahead of him would certainly soften the blow.
