Ross Adair, playing only his second international game, stroked a 47-ball 65 to help Ireland to a six-wicket victory against Zimbabwe, and level the three-match series going into the decider in Harare on Sunday.Chasing 145, Ireland made a steady but sedate start, as Adair and Andy Balbirnie added 48 for the first wicket. Two quick wickets from Ryan Burl looked to give Zimbabwe a way back into the game, but Adair and Harry Tector stitched together a 59-run partnership that put the visitors in sight of the win. Adair was eventually dismissed in the 16th over, having struck two fours and four sixes during his half-century, but Tector (26) and George Dockrell saw Ireland home in the final over, with two deliveries to spare; Dockrell finished the game with a six off Brad Evans, who leaked 38 runs from 3.4 overs.Earlier, Zimbabwe, in the absence of Gary Ballance, who was hit on the helmet in the previous game, managed 144 from their 20 overs. The team lost Tadiwanashe Marumani in the first over, but rebuilt through Innocent Kaia (25) and the captain Craig Ervine (42). At 117 for 4 in the 16th over, the hosts were looking for a final flourish, but two quick strikes from Graham Hume derailed their momentum. Zimbabwe lost their last four wickets for just seven runs, to be bowled out for 144.Hume ended with figures of 4-0-17-3, while Tector took 2 for 22 from his four overs.

Forget Armstrong: West Brom could ease Maja blow by unleashing 18y/o star

Tony Mowbray would have walked away from West Bromwich Albion’s last encounter in the Championship ultimately frustrated with the final outcome, even with a 1-1 draw falling into the bag come full-time.

West Brom had to rely on a Joe Bryan own goal to salvage a share of the points at the Den, with the Baggies’ attacking issues also getting the better of them against Blackburn Rovers the match before this trip to London, as a 2-0 loss was eventually swallowed.

Adam Armstrong has annoyingly drawn blanks across his last couple of second tier games, having bagged a goal on his West Brom debut, with the Southampton loanee looking out-of-sorts against Alex Neil’s determined hosts.

Armstrong's poor performances

Arguably, Mowbray didn’t play to his former Blackburn favourite’s strengths against Millwall, having chucked him out to the left wing to ensure another new loanee in Will Lankshear led the line.

But, Armstrong has shone in this position before down the flanks during his peak at St. Mary’s, with 12 of his sublime 34 goal contributions during the regular season in the Championship last campaign coming from either the left or right.

Regardless, away from this instinctive opener on his Hawthorns debut, Armstrong has looked somewhat quiet in his fresh surroundings, with zero successful dribbles pulled off at the Den, alongside only mustering up one on-target effort.

With Lankshear also looking timid with just eight touches of the ball amassed, Mowbray could now find himself back at the drawing board working out what could work in attack moving forward, especially with Josh Maja still in the Baggies treatment room.

Known for getting the best out of some raw starlets at the Stadium of Light – with Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg springing to mind – the 61-year-old might be prepared to give this exciting 18-year-old a chance to impress, away from the current first team monotony.

West Brom's in-house Maja replacement

The promotion hopefuls will hope their next Maja will soon come to the forefront, whether that is through giving an academy prospect a chance or the aforementioned Lankshear and Armstrong do end up firing in some big strikes to make a playoff spot more certain.

The first option could be more tantalising for Mowbray, considering the Baggies have had great success in recent years developing the likes of homegrown star Tom Fellows, as teenage sensation Eseosa Sule now waits in the wings.

Much like Maja – who has played out in France amongst lining up for a whole multitude of other outfits – Sule has had a varied upbringing in football, having previously been in the Celtic youth ranks as a Glasgow-born gem.

Now, he will hope he has found a home in West Brom where he can make waves in the senior picture, with this exciting brace against Liverpool earlier in the Premier League 2 season catching the eye.

Indeed, Sule is now up to five goals and two assists from 14 games this season playing in the U21 fold, taking his total overall goals haul in both the U21s and U18s to a promising 17 from 55 appearances.

With Daryl Dike also fragile coming back from a long-term injury up top, Mowbray could do far worse than to give the 18-year-old more opportunities, with one senior chance already gifted to him back in August when Carlos Corberan was still at the helm.

Sunderland's former manager Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray will hope he can work his magic on Sule, with the explosiveness of an untested youngster perhaps catching second-tier defences cold as games become even tenser for the playoff candidates.

Everton move for "extremely good" teenager collapses due to visa issues

Everton have seen their attempts to sign a talented European teenager stall due to visa issues, a source close to the player has now revealed.

Everton eye attacking reinforcements

After a turbulent few years at Everton, the club’s new owners, the Friedkin Group, have restored a sense of stability as the club looks ahead to a fresh chapter away from Goodison Park.

Not only have Friedkin reappointed David Moyes as manager, which has resulted in a huge upturn in the Toffees’ fortunes on the pitch, they’ve also significantly reduced the club’s £600 million debt, which should free up funds for new signings in the upcoming season.

With money in the kitty, Everton have been linked with a number of big names ahead of the summer, including former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who is currently on loan at AC Milan from AS Roma.

Everton are understood to have already made an approach for the Englishman, who has scored eight goals in 34 games for Milan this season, with Moyes keen to bolster his attacking line, especially with the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign, uncertain.

Contact made: Everton now make first move for "sensational" £34m striker

The Toffees have asked for information about a forward who is keen on moving to the Premier League.

ByDominic Lund Mar 6, 2025

Abraham himself is believed to be keen on a return to the Premier League, with West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham also named as potential suitors. Elsewhere, the Toffees are also reported to be keen on both West Ham United star Tomas Soucek and Brentford’s Christian Norgaard, seeking an experienced head in midfield.

Everton to lose out on teenage star

Another player Everton had reportedly been keen to land was Hungarian youngster Ricsi Pisont. Pisont, the 13-year-old nephew of former Hungary international István Pisont, has, according to Sportal, recently spent time at the Toffees’ academy, where he impressed enough for the Toffees to want to sign him.

The teenager also attended Blackburn’s academy, where he again convinced an English suitor of his talent. Instead, however, he will now have to stay with the academy of Budapest Honvéd, his uncle’s former club, because he is unable to get an English visa.

“He has gained great experience and both clubs wanted to sign him, but unfortunately we are not yet at the point where we can get a visa to England,” the youngster’s father, Richárd Pisont, told Sportal, per Sports Witness.

“In any case, we are in a very good place now, serious work is underway at the Honvéd academy, and everything is in place for Ricsi to develop his talent in Kispest,” he said.

If István Pisont’s comments on his nephew are anything to be believed, Everton look to have missed out on a serious talent.

“He has extremely good insights in the attacking zone, he makes good decisions in different game situations, he has high game intelligence and very good technical preparation,” the Honvéd legend, who now manages Hungary’s U-17s team, said. “If his physical parameters are also suitable, and if God helps him, he will have a very good career.”

The England captain scored 38 goals in 46 games in all competitions, but has never played in the Club World Cup. Now, he has expressed his excitement at attempting to make his mark in the tournament, which is being held in the United States. He believes it will serve as something of a preview for the 2026 World Cup, which will also be held in the US, as well as Mexico and Canada.

WHAT KANE SAID

Kane told the FIFA website:“It’s going to be unique, playing this type of major tournament with your club is different to what’s been done in the past but I think it’s going to be a great experience.

“Going out to the US, as well, a year before the World Cup itself will be a great chance to get to know some of the stadiums and get to know the fans out there. It’s going to be a really great tournament. As always, when it’s the first of any type of tournament, people are wondering how it’s going to go but I’m really excited for it."

Chelsea have already sold their own Kobbie Mainoo in £33m Cobham star

Chelsea’s transfer strategy has left plenty to be desired over the past few years, but it feels like Stamford Bridge is stabilising under Enzo Maresca’s management.

Chelsea manager EnzoMarescabefore the match

Sixth in the Premier League, there’s plenty the Blues could improve. However, Nottingham Forest are but three points ahead in third place. There’s plenty of time for Chelsea to right the wrongs of the past few months and attack the business months with intent.

However, Chelsea are nursing several key injuries that have threatened to derail Maresca’s early progress, and you can’t help but think more could have been done in January.

Who Chelsea could have signed over the winter

Chelsea kept their finger off the trigger during the January transfer market. It was an uncharacteristically quiet month, with the powers that be focusing on departures.

In the early knockings of the window, however, The Athletic reported Manchester United were open to selling homegrown players such as Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo to avoid profit and sustainability breaches. Chelsea were allegedly keen on both.

Manchester United's AlejandroGarnachocelebrates after the match

Mainoo was of particular interest. The fledgling England international, 19, is contracted until 2027 and there have been no signs of a breakthrough.

He’s on the long-term dossier, but his signing was not deemed vital enough to entertain the Red Devils’ price tag of £80m. Their curiosity may be rekindled down the line, though.

However, this may be a somewhat needless deal.

After all, Chelsea have a packed and dynamic midfield – and they’ve already sold a more complete version of the teenager.

Chelsea have already sold their own Mainoo

Okay, Mainoo might have a big future ahead of him, but haven’t Chelsea signed their share of soon-to-be superstars?

What the Blues need is instant impact. In goalkeeping and striking departments, for example, summer recruits must be ready to dazzle on the major stage from the outset.

So £80m for Mainoo may not be the best track to walk down, especially when Boehly and Co have already parted with Conor Gallagher. He is statistically the fifth most similar player to the Three Lions starlet in Europe’s five leagues, via Fbref, and was deemed incongruous with the way Maresca wishes to play.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

In August 2024, Chelsea sold homegrown Cobham midfielder Gallagher to Atletico Madrid for a £33m fee, having entered the final year of his £50k-per-week contract, informed that he would have to settle for a bit-part role in Maresca’s grand plans.

The 25-year-old has played 33 times for Diego Simeone’s title-chasing outfit but has only started 13 league matches.

Where Are They Now

Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast’s Where Are They Now series.

That said, he’s earned praise for bringing balance and intensity to the side, noted for a selfless, out-of-the-headline role that has elevated some of his peers.

Well, the numbers certainly suggest there is a bit of old-school swagger to Gallagher’s dogged style of play, producing similar output to the Manchester United teen in a number of areas, most notably pass completion, carries and ball recoveries.

Thus, when considering Mainoo’s not yet at the same level as his compatriot, you have to wonder whether Chelsea’s interest is anything more than curiosity.

Gallagher is an invaluable cog, capable of dovetailing into any tactical engine. Hailed as a “machine” of a midfielder by Moises Caicedo, they must rue his departure.

If Chelsea’s interest in Mainoo is a thing of substance, they might have already parted with a superior version – and a boyhood Blue at that.

Chelsea's "monster" signing has become the new Werner under Maresca

Chelsea’s £52m star may have become their next Timo Werner, showing levels of inconsistency.

Quer dizer, força máxima dentro do possível, é claro.

    WHAT NEXT?

Barcelona's players will now embark on their summer holidays ahead of the 2025-26 season, when they will aim to defend their title.

Man Utd now racing rival clubs to sign "insane" £46m Premier League forward

Manchester United are now racing rival English clubs to the signature of an “insane” Premier League forward, with a big development in the transfer saga expected soon, according to a report.

Man Utd pursuing new wingers this summer

In truth, a huge rebuild is probably needed to turn Man United back into contenders for the top honours, but they appear to be particularly keen on a new winger ahead of the summer, given that Antony and Marcus Rashford were sent out on loan in January.

Barcelona’s Raphinha is said to be one of the more outlandish targets, with a report revealing United could have the capability to make a huge bid for the Brazilian, who is currently thought to be among the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or.

Antoine Semenyo has also emerged as an option for the Red Devils, in light of an impressive campaign with AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League this season, with the Cherries making an unexpected push for Europe.

Man Utd propose Hojlund plus cash deal for £62m "best striker in the world"

The Red Devils would be willing to use Rasmus Hojlund in a deal to sign a top striker, according to one journalist.

Brighton & Hove Albion are also vying for a European spot, and Man United are thought to be interested in a winger currently playing for the Seagulls, with a report from Caught Offside revealing they are among the suitors for Kaoru Mitoma.

Ruben Amorim’s side are set to battle their Premier League rivals for the winger, with Chelsea and Liverpool also eyeing a deal, which could be relatively affordable, with an asking price of around €55m (£46m) being touted.

Brighton & Hove Albion's KaoruMitomain action with Fulham's Timothy Castagne

However, there could be a big development in the transfer saga soon, as Brighton are now believed to be trying desperately to tie him down to a new contract, which would see Mitoma extend his stay at the American Express Stadium until 2030.

"Insane" Mitoma enjoying another impressive campaign

The Japanese winger has been a key player for Brighton for quite some time, and former manager Roberto De Zerbi was a big fan, saying: “I have no words left for Mitoma. He’s really underrated but trust me, he’s so so underrated. The world of football hasn’t understood the value of Mitoma. He can be an incredible player for any manager, not just for me. He’s insane.”

The Brighton star has been particularly impressive since the turn of the year, picking up five goals and one assist in all competitions in 2025, having cemented his place in the starting XI.

£46m seems like a fair price for a player of Mitoma’s ability, so it is promising news that Man United are in the race for his signature. However, a move does not seem particularly likely as things stand, given that a new deal to remain at Brighton could be on the cards.

Man City battling Man Utd to sign £30m+ "cheat code" who may replace Walker

Manchester City are now battling Manchester United for the signing of a full-back who could be brought in to replace Kyle Walker this summer, according to a report.

City eyeing replacements for Walker

It could be a summer of major change at the Etihad Stadium, with a number of long-serving players potentially set for exits, including Walker, who has already been sent out on loan to AC Milan for the remainder of the season.

There have been widespread reports suggesting Milan want to make the right-back’s stay permanent, which means a replacement will be necessary, and Pep Guardiola has identified a number of potential targets over the past few months.

One option City have in mind is Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, with a summer approach expected for the full-back, who is able to play on both sides of the backline.

Another player on the shortlist is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, who has a “genetleman’s agreement” in place to leave the German club at the end of the season, with a deal expected to be possible for £33.1m.

However, according to a new report from TEAMtalk, Man City could face major competition for Frimpong, with rivals Man United now ready to battle it out for his signature.

Bayer Leverkusen's Nathan Tella celebrates scoring their second goal with JeremieFrimpong

The report makes it clear the full-back will leave Leverkusen at the end of the season, with the reigning Bundesliga champions in the process of identifying alternatives, and it seems as though a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

City are said to be keen on bringing in a long-term replacement for Walker, while they are also looking to sign the Leverkusen defender’s teammate, Florian Wirtz.

"Cheat code" Frimpong is a top attacking full-back

The Dutch defender has received high praise for his ability on the front foot in the past, being lauded by freelance scout Antonio Mango in light of his performances for his national side.

The 24-year-old’s attacking prowess is underlined by the fact he ranks extremely highly on a number of key attacking metrics over the past year, when compared to his positional peers.

The only concern over the potential signing of the full-back is the fact he has been described as “average defensively” by journalist Muhammad Butt, indicating he may be better suited to a more advanced role, rather than being brought in as a like-for-like Walker replacement.

That said, Guardiola may feel Frimpong’s attacking output makes up for his defensive shortcomings, so it could still be worth pursuing a move this summer, and £33.1m seems like it could be a fair fee.
