According to Fabrizio Romano, Swansea are set to announce that the 53-year-old, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, will become another high-profile investor in the club. This comes months after Modric, who just joined AC Milan from Real Madrid, became a minority owner at the Championship outfit.

Swansea posted a pre-tax loss of £15.2 million in the year ending June 30, 2024, so having this extra investment can do them no harm. The Welsh side were once an established Premier League team but have been outside the English top-flight since 2018. Getting back there will be the target, and moves such as these could play their part in achieving that goal.

DID YOU KNOW?

Swansea hinted that Snoop Dogg will have some future involvement at the club after helping launch their new home shirt for the upcoming season. He was their surprise model as the Welsh team unveiled their jersey on social media last weekend.

Swansea's American owners, who are led by Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen, have made it clear they want to enhance the club's brand and global appeal ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and developments like this could help with that. Following the capture of Wolves' Matheus Cunha and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, United head coach Amorim was asked about what he thought of the players at his disposal. The ex-Sporting CP boss stressed the Red Devils need to be "careful" in the transfer market, that he is content with his current options, and that they will bond through the suffering.

He told reporters: "We need to be really careful when we sign players. If we start the season with this squad, I am happy. We are going to suffer but that feeling of bonding is really important. The spirit is positive."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim and United are under huge pressure to perform next season after an abject 2024/25 campaign. The Red Devils failed to win a trophy, losing meekly to Tottenham in the Europa League final, and finished 15th in the Premier League. It could be argued they need a lot of quality additions but Amorim appears to be taking a glass half-full approach.

Bumrah: 'You want to make an impact early on when the ball does something'

Mumbai Indians tend to use Jasprit Bumrah as their trump card in the back end of the bowling innings, given that is where a lot of T20 games are won and lost and having his skills when the pressure is that high is always useful. But the man himself would like to have a crack at oppositions much earlier.”Of course, you want to make an impact early on when the ball does something,” Bumrah said after he came in to bowl the second over against Punjab Kings and picked up two wickets straightaway – and one later – to help prevent Punjab Kings from chasing down 193.”Because in this format, probably the ball does swing for the first two overs. And when I want to bowl more, I do play Test cricket. That is where all my desires for bowling more gets over. In this format, when the ball swings for the first two overs, you do want to make an impact and when the opportunity comes, I’m happy to contribute.”Related

This year’s IPL is witnessing increased scoring rates and record-breaking totals. Bumrah, however, has managed to be as miserly as ever, going at a scarcely believable economy rate of 5.96. He has also picked up 13 wickets in seven matches, which puts him top of the tree.”Obviously this format is a little difficult for the bowlers because the batsmanship is going up,” he said. “With the time restrictions [over-rate penalties] as well and the Impact Player rule, that does not help the bowler too much because the batting line-up becomes deeper and deeper and the bowler becomes half the bowler when you get an extra option.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

“But I feel like all of those things are not in your control. What you can do is try to prepare to the best of your ability and back yourself in any situation because all of that will then put you in a good space of mind and you can go out there and execute with a smile on your face.”Do his team-mates look to him to provide guidance when they are at the top of their mark?”Whenever there’s an opportunity. I do relay a message from wherever I am. But sometimes in the heat of the moment, it’s difficult to pass on a lot of message,” Bumrah said. “But yes, I am always there if anybody needs help because you don’t want to give too many messages as well because the bowler is already under pressure and when too many messages come, you don’t land here or there, you land in the middle.”

Luke Shaw has credited Ruben Amorim for fixing the "toxic atmosphere" in the Manchester United dressing room. Shaw spent the majority of the 2024-25 campaign on the sidelines due to injuries, but he is now raring to start afresh under Amorim at Old Trafford. The experienced full-back has heaped praise on the United head coach amid the club's pre-season tour of the United States, while lifting the lid on his no-nonsense style.

  • WHAT SHAW SAID

Speaking to reporters, the English defender said: "It’s not hard to see from the outside what it’s been like. A lot of the time I’ve been here over the last few years, it’s been extremely negative. It can be quite toxic, the environment; it’s not healthy at all. We need an environment that’s healthy, that’s positive, that’s got good energy and happiness.

"I think when you have all those things, you feel free, and you express yourself more on the pitch. Things come together and I think, especially this pre-season, us as a team, I feel like the bond is growing and growing. I feel like in my time here, it’s probably the closest I’ve felt with the squad. I think the atmosphere is really good and extremely positive. Hopefully, that can continue."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Shaw added: "There are no stragglers in this group anymore. His (Amorim’s) mentality, his demands, he’s extremely tough on the group. He leaves no stone unturned. Everyone has to put the team first. He’s made that very clear. He’s picking players on who he feels will be best for the team and that’s his choice.

"As players, we’re fully behind him and fully behind on his ideas and what he wants to implement in the team. We feel like a real team, especially in this pre-season since I’ve been back. The group is so together and that’s something that we need to keep, to make us more of a family and to keep everyone together, driving in the right direction."

Kuldeep 'enjoying' Bazball: 'It has made bowlers plan how to restrict runs'

He says England’s attacking cricket has made him focus on restricting batters as well as taking wickets

Shashank Kishore13-Feb-2024India’s left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav has said he enjoyed his first taste of England’s Bazball approach in Visakhapatnam because it not only created more wicket-taking opportunities but also made bowlers think about restricting batters in Test cricket.”Usually in Tests you’re not used to teams attacking you with this kind of approach [Bazball], but it also involves you a lot more,” Kuldeep said ahead of the third Test against England starting on February 15 in Rajkot. “As a spinner it makes you more focused on how you want to bowl and what your approach is.”Normally when you play Tests, you don’t worry about batters attacking you, you’re only focused on how you want to get them out. But here the approach is different, they’re in attacking mode so you also have to plan how to restrict them. When they play shots, you have those many opportunities to take wickets. It’s interesting. The last game was my first [against Bazball], I enjoyed it a lot, it’s good for cricket.”Related

The Visakhapatnam Test was only Kuldeep’s ninth Test since he made his debut in March 2017. It was his first in over 15 months. Kuldeep picked up three of his four wickets in the first innings as India took a 143-run lead that helped them level the five-Test series 1-1.”It’s been good,” Kuldeep said with a smile when asked about finally getting a chance in Test cricket. “Whatever Tests I’ve played, I’ve performed well. I have three five-fors, so yeah it feels good when you see the stats. I’m very happy.”The pitches for the first two Tests of this series have not been rank turners and, if that trend continues in Rajkot, Kuldeep could keep his place in the XI even if Ravindra Jadeja returns. Kuldeep’s accuracy and extra bounce made him more effective than Axar Patel in Visakhapatnam.”Am not sure of my position,” he said when asked about his chances of playing in Rajkot. “If I get the opportunity, I’ll be more than happy. I don’t think too much about whether am playing or not. I just enjoy my day and keep working hard. Combination is such a thing that it matters in a team game. As simple as that.”Kuldeep needed no reminders of his previous Test in Rajkot, where he took a five-for against West Indies in 2018.”It’ll be a batting wicket,” he said when asked about the pitch for the upcoming Test against England. ‘It doesn’t mean there’ll be 700-800 runs scored. It’ll be a good wicket. It won’t be a rank turner, it will be a live wicket, good for cricket.”Why has there been a sudden shift in the nature of pitches for this series?”I haven’t played on rank turners, I don’t know what the approach or thought is, it’s a team management decision,” Kuldeep said. “Obviously everyone wants to watch good cricket. I don’t know if I’ll get an opportunity or not, but whether it’s flat wicket or rank turner, I enjoy it. I think batting is also important, not just spin bowling. Fast bowling comes into the game as well. It’s good for cricket. It’s not like you’ll see rank turners only, but hopefully you’ll see it [laughs].”

Musheer Khan’s patient 136 and Shreyas Iyer’s attacking 95 helped Mumbai set Vidarbha a target of 538 on the third day of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy final. The highest target chased down successfully in first-class cricket is 536.With Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma in attendance, the Mumbai batters sent the Vidarbha fielders on a leather hunt.Ajinkya Rahane got going by hitting a four off Umesh Yadav in the first over of the day. Iyer took the attacking route right from the start, hitting Aditya Thakare over long-off for a six. Yash Thakur and Umesh tested him with the short ball but Iyer took them on. The lack of bounce also worked in Iyer’s favour as Thakur’s short balls hardly got up to even chest height. He pulled one of those over long leg for a six.Iyer had a stroke of luck on 49 when Dubey induced an outside edge that went between the wicketkeeper and the slip fielder for four. But that did not stop him from going for his shots. On the first ball after lunch, he skipped down the track to Dubey and launched him into the stands beyond long-on.Musheer was solid at the other end. At one point, it looked like Iyer might beat him to a century when he was on 92 and Iyer on 82. But Musheer eventually pipped his senior partner. Once the milestone was out of the way, Musheer accelerated and moved to 129, with Iyer still five short of his hundred.Shreyas Iyer scored 95 before holing out•PTI

Iyer tried to bring up the three-figure mark with a six but holed out to long-off off Thakare. That ended a 168-run association between Iyer and Musheer but by then, Mumbai’s lead had crossed 450.Wickets fell in quick succession after that. Yash bowled Hardik Tamore for 5, and Dubey got rid of Musheer and Shardul Thakur off consecutive balls on either side of tea.Dubey, who did the bulk of the bowling with Aditya Sarwate indisposed, completed his five-wicket haul when he bowled Tanush Kotian for 13. Shams Mulani brought up his half-century in the company of the lower order and remained unbeaten on 50.After Mumbai were bowled out for 418 in 130.2 overs, the Vidarbha openers had to face two overs before stumps. Atharva Taide and Dhruv Shorey saw those off safely.

Former Australia batter Joe Burns has revealed a tribute to his brother who passed away earlier this year as he embarks on a new chapter to his career by playing for Italy.Burns, 34, was dropped by Queensland last season and did not earn a place on their 2024-25 contract list. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Burns went public about the death of his brother, which occurred in February, alongside an image of his Italy shirt bearing the number 85 which was his brother’s in club cricket.”This isn’t just a number and this isn’t just a jersey. This is for the people who I know will be looking down proudly from above,” he wrote.”In February of this year my brother sadly passed away. 85 was his number in the last team he played (and his birth year) for the mighty Northern Federals in sub-districts.”The days, weeks and months since my brother’s death have been the toughest I could ever imagine. I’m not too proud to admit that it’s been a daily battle that I often lose.”While a part of my soul feels like it will always be missing, I know this shirt will carry on his spirit and give me strength.”It’s the hours playing as kids and connection with him that taught me to love this game.” Burns qualifies for Italy through his mother’s heritage and is now set to feature in the sub regional qualifiers as part of the pathway to the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup. Italy are grouped with France, Isle of Man, Luxembourg and Turkey in group one with matches to take place between June 9-16 in Rome.”I often reflect on the bravery and commitment it must have taken my Grandparents when they left Italy to start a new life in Australia,” he wrote. “They found a way to make it work through adversity and this has always given me solace through life’s lessons. I’m so proud to represent Italy on our path to the 2026 World Cup.”Burns was averaging 37.16 in the Sheffield Shield when he was dropped by Queensland – in what overall was a challenging season for batters – but is now without any professional deals in Australia with his Melbourne Stars contract having also expired. In 23 Tests he made four centuries, averaging 36.97, with his last appearance coming against India in late 2020.
