Real Madrid return for Rodri! Los Blancos readying eye-watering €150m transfer offer amid determination to prise Ballon d'Or winner away from Man City

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar once more, with the Spanish giants prepared to part with €150 million (£130m/$175m) in order to bring the midfielder onto their books. The Ballon d'Or winner is, however, considered to be a priceless commodity at the Etihad Stadium and the Premier League heavyweights have no intention of parting with a prized asset.

  • Rodri a stunning success story for Man City

Rodri, who was named the best player on the planet in 2024 after helping City to another domestic title and his country to European Championship glory, has been in England since 2019. The Madrid native bid farewell to his homeland at that point when severing ties with Atletico.

The 29-year-old has, after a relatively slow start, been a stunning transfer success story for City. They spent £62.6m ($85m) on him when triggering a release clause and are aware that he is now worth at least double that. The Cityzens are, however, not about to put a price tag around Rodri’s neck as they want him to remain on their books for the foreseeable future.

Rodri is only tied to a contract through to 2027, though, and that is keeping the likes of Real interested. They hope that a deal could be done next summer, as City cash in rather than risk losing the classy holding midfielder for nothing. According to , a huge offer is being readied in the Spanish capital.

How much Real Madrid are willing to pay for Rodri

It is claimed that Los Blancos would be willing to pay €150m to make Rodri another ‘Galactico’ at Santiago Bernabeu. That figure highlights how much Real believe the Spain international would be a crucial addition to their ranks – with long-standing interest being held.

It has previously been claimed that Real would not pay more than €100m (£87m/$117m) for Rodri. They are now prepared to increase that offer in a bid to lure City to the negotiating table. Florentino Perez is said to believe that Rodri could reshape Madrid’s midfield for many years to come – as he fills the void created by Luka Modric and Toni Kroos’ recent departures.

  • New contract? Why Man City want to avoid sale

City, though, consider Rodri to be the man that makes them tick. Pep Guardiola has previously told : "With him, we are a better team. No doubt. If holding midfielders started getting the recognition of Erling Haaland and Kevin, we would have a problem. The holding midfielder has to never, ever be in the highlights. He has to do the job he has to do. But without him, we could not do what we are doing.

"But the highlights have to belong to other people. The holding midfielder has to think for the rest of the team and do not expect the recognition. But internally? All team-mates and staff, they all know how important and decisive he is. Massively important for us.”

The latest reports regarding Rodri’s future claim that City president Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is determined to keep the Spaniard in his current surroundings. Unsurprisingly, a contract extension offer is said to be in the pipeline that will increase the midfielder’s salary and bring any unwelcome exit talk to a close.

Immediate future: Rodri recovering from another injury

If Rodri were to indicate that he is ready for a new challenge, with a return to his roots holding plenty of obvious appeal, then City would have no choice but to listen to what Real have to say. That is not, however, a discussion that they are planning to have any time soon.

For now, City are focused on nursing Rodri back to full health. They saw him pick up another untimely knock during a Premier League victory at Brentford. Rodri lasted just 20 minutes of that contest before being forced from the field with a muscle complaint.

No setback has been suffered in his ongoing recovery from the ACL injury that kept him out for several months last season, with Rodri stating that he could be ready for the resumption of Premier League action on October 18 – when City face Everton – having withdrawn from the latest Spain squad in order to avoid any unnecessary risks being taken on his fitness.

Le Bris’ next Rigg: Sunderland in the race for another CB after Alderete

Only two more sleeps are left for Sunderland supporters until the drama of the Premier League starts.

It’s been a long but exciting summer to be a follower of the Black Cats, with a mega £132m now spent on 11 brand new signings following the latest capture of Omar Alderete from Getafe, with the aim to give the Wearside outfit the best fighting chance at immediate survival.

Preparations are well underway for their opening clash against West Ham United at the Stadium of Light, with the dream outcome, of course, being a confidence-boosting victory in front of their adoring home masses.

It might not play out like that, however, with the Black Cats not done entirely with their all rampant business either, as more tweaks are potentially made to try and get the best out of a new-look side in the long-term.

Latest on Sunderland's transfer search

Le Bris will have to utilise his full squad across the 38-game marathon of a season to come.

That could result in even more purchases being signed off on, following the £10m addition of Alderete. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had reportedly been on the Sunderland radar as another body up top, before Leeds United then won his services.

Everton's DominicCalvert-Lewincelebrates scoring their first goal

Sunderland might be luckier with their advances in defence, with former Newcastle United centre-back Lloyd Kelly now on the Black Cats’ shopping list at around the £17m price range.

There is also a rising star defensively catching the newly promoted side’s eye in the form of 19-year-old Fiorentina sensation Eddy Koudiao.

Reports from Italian outlet La Nazione – via La Viola – are suggesting that the teenage centre-back is being monitored by Le Bris and Co. after impressing in pre-season for the Serie A side, with contests against Nottingham Forest and Manchester United seeing Kouadio stand out at the back.

The Frenchman might well believe he can work his magic on yet another youngster if the Italy U19 international were to relocate to Wearside shortly, with Kouadio – who was linked with a move earlier this year – becoming his next Chris Rigg-style project subsequently.

How Kouadio can become Le Bris' next Rigg

Much like Kouadio has generated plenty of hype in Florence for some time now, Rigg has been shouted about regularly among those with Stadium of Light connections as a youngster ready to burst into life at the very top.

Le Bris would get the maximum out of the versatile 18-year-old last season as promotion was triumphantly secured, with the ex-Lorient manager – who has been dubbed a “specialist” in working with the next generation according to Sky Sports’ Don Goodman – handing Rigg a weighty 47 senior opportunities.

Sunderland'sChrisRigg

The exciting number 11 would repay his manager’s unwavering faith by smashing home four goals and collecting one assist, with football commentator Ian Darke even declaring that he is “obviously going to play in the Premier League” mid-way through these promising exploits.

Darke has been proven right with his comments, with Rigg thankfully staying put this summer despite previous Manchester United speculation. Kouadio will be hopeful that he can receive similar glowing praise if he’s thrust into the senior spotlight at Sunderland, having shot up the age brackets at Fiorentina with ease, much like his 18-year-old counterpart at his boyhood employers.

Indeed, the Fiorentina U19 regular has now accumulated a mammoth 82 appearances for the Serie A giants at youth level, with his ability to play in the right-back slot, away from just being comfortable centrally, making him even more similar to Rigg, who can line up across various midfield positions if needed.

Further, Le Bris will feel somewhat more confident about chucking his new recruit into senior action when assessing how he dealt with those pre-season tests against the Red Devils and the Tricky Trees.

From 72 minutes of action combined across the two friendlies, the 19-year-old would throw himself about into duels without fear, culminating in 50% of his duels being won from four attempts, as per Sofascore.

He would only misplace two of his passes against Forest, too, with there clearly being a lot of promise in the way Kouadio conducts himself.

Sunderland manager RegisLeBris

It will all rest on whether the Italian defender can blossom into Sunderland’s next much-talked-about starlet, away from mere hype, with the hope that he can become the club’s next Rigg down the line, as Le Bris’ expertise in this area works wonders again.

Celtic now ready to make statement of intent Parkhead signing after talks

Celtic are now reportedly “set to up the ante” and try to complete the statement signing of a long-term target in the summer transfer window.

Celtic in contact over signing various players

It looks as though the Hoops are pushing hard to complete some important business this summer, with a number of players being strongly linked with moves to Parkhead.

Celtic are believed to have made contact with FC Cukaricki teenager Andrej Bacanin over a switch to the club, but rivals Rangers are also providing stern competition for his services. A new update has also claimed that the Scottish Premiership champions are in pole position to snap up the 18-year-old midfielder ahead of clubs across Europe.

Meanwhile, the Hoops have been in talks with Royal Antwerp attacker Michel-Ange Balikwisha over a move to the club, with the 24-year-old seen as a target for Brendan Rodgers’ side for a long time now.

In fact, one report earlier this year stated that the Celtic manager is a big admirer of the Belgian, having had his eye on him for some time now. Now, a fresh update has emerged regarding their pursuit of him.

Celtic increasing efforts to sign Balikwisha

According to The Daily Record, Celtic are now “set to up the ante” to sign Balikwisha this summer, as they look to “finally seal a move” for him. The report adds that signing Balikwisha would be a ‘statement of intent’, with the Hoops ‘primed to strike’.

Antwerp boss Stef Wils has also hinted in recent days that a move away for one of his best players is potentially on the cards, saying: “That’s possible, yes. I’m just working with the guys who are here at the moment. They all have the qualities to play here, so it would be foolish not to use them.”

Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

It really does feel as though Celtic are now hellbent on getting a deal for Balikwisha over the line, in what could be such an impressive piece of business by the Scottish giants.

At 24, the left winger is at a perfect point in his career to come straight in and make an immediate impact, having been lauded as an “unpredictable” player by analyst Ben Mattinson.

Balikwisha seemingly likes the idea of moving to one of the biggest clubs in Britain after entertaining talks, and there is no reason why he couldn’t be the next great attacker at Parkhead, giving Rodgers the extra firepower he craves as his side look to both defend the title and perform better in the Champions League.

Celtic make contact to sign promising star who could be Ajer 2.0

Celtic have made an enquiry about a young star who could be a Kristoffer Ajer repeat for the club.

The Antwerp star has 46 goal contributions in 141 appearances for his current club, and the fact that he can also do a job on the right wing and in a central attacking role is an added bonus.

Best winger since Kent: Rangers plotting Ibrox move for "rapid' £2m star

Rangers’ busy transfer activity shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.

Russell Martin has now made six new signings at Ibrox since being appointed manager last month, following confirmation of Nasser Djiga’s loan move.

Russell Martin watches on whilst in charge of Southampton.

Fellow new recruits Max Aarons and Emmanuel Fernandez made their maiden appearances in light blue during a pre-season friendly at the weekend, so how many more will be through the door at Rangers in the coming days?

So far, Martin has prioritised bolstering his defensive and midfield options, as the table below documents.

Now though, Rangers will need to add some attacking reinforcements.

It is possible that all three Rangers players who scored more than six goals last season will depart, given that Václav Černý has returned to Wolfsburg, following his loan spell, while Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers are being courted by other clubs.

Thus, according to a report by Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Deutschland, Rangers are ‘monitoring’ Thierno Ballo, with Ajax, Mainz and others also ‘keen’ to sign him.

No potential fee is included in the report, but Football Transfers believe the 22 year old to be worth €2.3m (around £2m).

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Ballo has had an interesting career and life to date; born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, he moved to Austria at the age of four, spending time in the academy set-ups of LASK, Bayer Leverkusen and Viktoria Köln, before joining Chelsea as a 16 year old.

He represented the Blues over 85 times in the UEFA Youth League, EFL Trophy, FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2, without ever making a senior appearance, ultimately loaned out to Rapid Wien in 2021, before joining current employers Wolfsberger AC as a free agent a year later.

Now, could he be returning to Great Britain, only this time north of the border and for a hefty price-tag?

How Thierno Ballo would improve Rangers

Ballo’s recent form in the Austrian Bundesliga has certainly caught the eye, scoring 13 goals across league and cup during both of the last two seasons.

This is a feat three players have achieved.

As the table outlines, none of Rangers’ four current wide-attackers have particularly impressed, especially when compared to Kent who, in 218 appearances, scored 33 goals and registered 56 assists during five seasons in Govan.

The search to try and replace Kent over the past two seasons has largely proved unsuccessful – excluding loan moves for Abdallah Sima and Cerny – although Ballo’s form in Austria of late is certainly reason for optimism.

Thus, everything suggests that Ballo would be an excellent addition, one they’ll be desperate to get over the line before taking on Panathinaikos in Champions League qualifying on 22 July.

Man Utd's answer to Kane: Wilcox in advanced talks to sign "monster" CF

Manchester United’s front line has been the subject of various additions already this summer, as Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul his first-team squad.

The manager has already secured the signing of forward Matheus Cunha from fellow Premier League outfit Wolves, costing a fee in the region of £62.5m.

Despite the huge fee spent on the 25-year-old, more business is expected to be completed in such a department, with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo another name on their shortlist.

Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo celebrates after the match

He’s been subject to multiple offers from the Red Devils already this window, but a deal is yet to be agreed after he stated his desire to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Other players have remained as key targets for the 40-year-old boss, who appears to be at the heart of various deals which could massively bolster the ranks at the Theatre of Dreams.

The latest on United’s hunt for added reinforcements this summer

The forward line has been the main focus for Jason Wilcox and Co this window, as seen by United’s tireless efforts to complete a move to land Cunha ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Brazilian isn’t alone in being pursued by staff behind the scenes in Manchester, with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Kang-in Lee and Rafael Leao just three other talents currently in their sights.

Galatasaray's VictorOsimhenreacts

However, they aren’t the only options, with Amorim’s side taking a huge step to secure the signature of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to Record via CaughtOffside.

It’s been reported that positive meetings have been held with the striker’s representatives and that a bid is expected to be lodged to take the Swede to Old Trafford this summer.

They also claim that the Portuguese outfit are holding out for €80m (£67m) to part ways with their talisman, who’s managed to find the net on 54 occasions throughout 2024/25.

Why United’s latest target could be Amorim’s own answer to Kane

Harry Kane is a striker who every side in world football must wish they had, considering his goalscoring exploits, which have made him one of Europe’s most sought-after talents.

The 31-year-old spent 10 years as a first-team regular at Tottenham Hotspur, racking up 280 goals and becoming their all-time record goalscorer in the process.

However, it wasn’t enough to propel Spurs to any form of silverware, subsequently moving to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, with the Englishman carrying on his rich vein of form in front of goal.

He’s netted a staggering 82 goals in his 91 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, with Kane evidently making the right choice to move to Germany over a switch to Old Trafford after the Red Devils’ previous interest in his services.

This summer presents Amorim’s side with the chance to land their own talisman in the form of Gyokeres, with the Sporting star comparable to the England international by FBref.

When comparing the pair’s respective figures from the recent campaign, the Swede has managed to outperform him in numerous key departments – handing United their answer to Kane should he move this summer.

The Swede, who’s been labelled a “monster” by analyst Ben Mattinson, has massively outscored the Bayern ace, whilst also managing to register a higher shot-on-target rate, handing Amorim the deadly threat in front of goal he’s desperately craved.

Gyokeres’ aerial ability could also prove handy for the Red Devils, handing the side a focal point to play-off, whilst also offering an added threat from set pieces to improve their goalscoring record.

There’s no denying Kane will go down as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever goalscorers, with Gyokeres having huge pressure to replicate such success should he move to England this window.

The comparison is credit to the striker and an indication as to how impressive he’s been in recent times, potentially offering a new dimension to the club should he complete the switch in the coming months.

Spurs must sell £60m "monster" who's wanted by the biggest club in the world

Regardless of how Tottenham Hotspur fare in the Europa League Final later this month, this summer has to be one of significant change at the club.

To ensure next season isn’t as much of a disaster as this one has been, Daniel Levy and Co need to dig deep and bring in some genuine quality to improve the first team.

However, signing a load of talented players won’t be enough on its own.

On top of adding to the first team and squad, the North Londoners need to get rid of several players, including one who is being eyed up by one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The players Spurs should sell

Unfortunately, due to the nature of their campaign this season, there are several players Spurs should probably be looking to move on in the summer, such as Richarlison and Yves Bissouma.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The former has never got even close to justifying the £60m fee he cost the club in 2022, and while there have been the odd moments he’s looked good this year, a return of five goals and two assists just isn’t good enough.

Likewise, Bissouma might occasionally put in a performance that reminds fans why the club signed him in the first place.

Tottenham Hotspur's YvesBissoumareacts after being substituted

Still, there have been far too many games this season in which he’s looked entirely out of his depth, like away to Fulham, when he was hooked at half-time and given a 3/10 match rating by Alasdair Gold.

However, there is another player, one who is actually incredibly talented, who is being eyed by a major European force that the North Londoners should cash in on: Cristian Romero.

Yes, according to a recent report from the Sun, Real Madrid are now sniffing around the World Cup winner once again.

The report has revealed that incoming manager Xabi Alonso is a big fan of the Argentine, and with their defence considered to be their weakest area, the Spanish giants could make a move to sign the former Juventus ace.

The report does not mention a potential price, but according to stories from earlier this month, Spurs value their defender at £60m, a fee think they should accept for him.

Why Spurs should sell Romero

Okay, so the first thing to say is that we do not think Romero is a bad defender, far from it.

TottenhamHotspur's CristianRomeroreacts

However, there are a few genuine reasons as to why it might be smart for Spurs to sell the World Cup winner this summer, with chief among them being his desire.

While there can be no doubt about his intense need to win when it comes to the big games – just look at his performance against Bodo/Glimt – there have been questions over his commitment to the club for some time now.

For example, only last week, a new report from GIVEMESPORT revealed that he is planning to push for a move to La Liga this summer regardless of what happens in the Europa League, and then last month, other reports claimed he had already held discussions with Diego Simeone over a potential move to Atlético Madrid.

Combine this desire to leave with the fact he’s got just two years left on his £165k-per-week deal, and it seems like cashing in on him now before he can drive the price down further seems smart.
